Christopher Butcher is Principal and Chief Technology Officer at Heuristic Solutions, a software consulting firm in Arlington, Virginia. In addition to leading the technical direction at Heuristic Solutions, Mr. Butcher serves as a virtual chief information officer (vCIO) at a variety of organizations. His focus has been on aligning information technology projects with the strategic objectives of organizations.

For the last 15 years, Mr. Butcher has led information technology initiatives in organizations as diverse as Verizon Communications, the Cato Institute, and the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. His knowledge spans areas of information technology governance, enterprise architecture, project management, and collaboration.

Mr. Butcher’s background spans both the information technology arena and the softer skills. Growing up overseas in places like Nairobi, Kenya, and Jidda, Saudi Arabia, Mr. Butcher has a keen appreciation for how difference cultures make decisions. His first programming success was at age 13, in which he programmed graphics manipulation software on his Atari 800.  After studying South Asian religions at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, Mr. Butcher subsidized his Master of Divinity at Yale Divinity School by providing IT support to various non-profit organizations. Mr. Butcher currently applies his counseling skills to the vital task of listening to people’s needs, whether technical or personal. Mr. Butcher continues to serve as an on-call chaplain at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Mr. Butcher is married and has three children and lives in Arlington. Weather permitting, he spends as much time as he can cycling.
